Blossombymelissa, was created and managed by Melissa. Creating the brand has been exciting and rewarding, with the help of my brand designer, Ben Fowler, of Dobro Branding.

My mission is to provide high-quality products at an affordable price.

Choosing a fragrance for a person Is highly personal as you have to choose a fragrance to compliment their personality and taste.

I add personal touches to enhance my products with my signature gift wrapping.

I like my products and packaging to maintain their rustic style and design.

I love the simplicity of clear glass. Classic yet elegant. I choose wooden wicks as they create a cosy atmosphere in any room. They make a crackling sound when burnt which has a relaxing effect.

All our candle containers can be reused. Some of them can be reused as Vases. You just need to wash out the container with hot soapy water.

I source premium fragrances along with unique products.  I only use the finest quality materials that are ethically sourced. We have taken great care to source products that are environmental substantially and this can be filtered up the supply chain to the farmers and raw materials.

Our fragrances come from a worlds renowned perfumer.  With the highest quality assurance that all our products are rigorously tested combined with full CLP  legislative compliance.

Our wax is a blend of coconut and soy and is blended in small batches.

All of our oils and was are free from animal-derived products and are not tested on animals.

Our diffusers are made from renewable resources. It is non-toxic, low in carbon footprint, and low in odour.

Candle Throw

While scent and fragrance describe what a candle smells like. The scent throw describes the quality of a candle.

Hot throw is important to developing a good quality candle.

Scent throw can actually be split into two types: ‘Cold Throw’ and ‘Hot Throw’. Cold throw refers to how the fragrance is released when the candle is at room temperature and unlit. Hot thow refers to the release of the fragrance when the candle is lit.

Candle throw is a term that describes how a scent travels through the air to fill a space. This describes the quality of a scent.

My Candle Inspiration

I take inspiration for my candles and names from moments that have turned into memories in my life.

Smell is one of our strongest senses which can trigger memories and emotions.

Blossom is an experience where the senses are inspired by engaging stories, where we escape to a different place. When we blossom, we begin a new chapter.

Enjoy Your Candle Safety

Treat your candles with care by following some instructions and safety precautions. These tips will help your candle perform at its best when burning and provide it last longer.

Before Burning

  • Trim the wick to 5mm each time with sharp scissors or candle wick trimmers before burning.
  • For wood wicks, after each burn wait till the candle cools down and you can pinch the burnt piece of wood off.

Wood wicks create a larger flame with a soothing crackle sound like a wood-burning fire.

  • For S wood wicks which are self-trimming wicks. They do not need not require any care during and after each burn.

The S shape wick creates the perfect ambience mood with a dancing subtle flame and gives off a slight crack noise.

The First Candle Burn

The first time you burn our candles, it is important to allow them to burn for from 2 to 4 hours to create a full “melt pool”. This means the melted wax reaches all the way to the edge of the container.

This establishes the memory of the wax and will allow it to burn evenly all the way down every time you re-light the candle. If the first burn is too short the candle will create a tunnel. This will cause the candle to only burn down the middle.

After every burn, simply pinch off any split portion of the wood wick gently with your fingers.

The wax is the fuel that the wick is using to burn. If there is not a strong enough flame. Blow the candle out and trim the wick and re-light.

While Burning

  • Place the candle on a level, heat-resistant surface.
  • Candles must be placed a minimum of 50mm apart.
  • Keep the wax pool clear of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times.
  • Never touch or move a burning candle.
  • Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
  • Lit candles should never be left unattended.
  • Never burn a candle near anything flammable.
  • Burning candles should be kept away from furniture, curtains, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations etc. and never place them too close to a wall.
  • Please burn your candle in draught-free conditions to stop the candle from dripping or smoking.
  • Discontinue using the candle when 5 mm of wax remains.
  • Please ensure you keep candles and burners at least 1 meter away from your dried flowers as this may cause a fire.

Extinguishing Your Candle (Burn Candles for max 4 hours)

  • Use a candle snuffer to extinguish a candle to prevent hot wax from splattering if blowing a candle out.
  • Make sure the candle is completely extinguished.
  • Don't touch the candle until it has cooled down and the wax has solidified.

Candle Storage

Candles are sensitive to sunlight and temperature. Store your candles in an upright position in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. You can keep your candles dust free by using a lid, a dust cover or a glass cloche.

What is soy wax?

Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. The process starts with soybeans from which the oil is separated. It then goes through a process called hydrogenation which changes it from liquid oil to a solid shortening at the room. This is where the oil is purified.

Soy candles burn slower and cooler, giving them a longer burn.

Soy wax is naturally biodegradable, as soybeans are vegetables. This makes it easier to clean if spilt on surfaces. It can be washed out of clothes.

'Wet spots' on the inside of the container

If you notice an area on your container candle that looks like an air bubble trapped between the wax and the glass, this is what is known as a wet spot.

Wet spots occur when the wax pulls away from the edge of the glass. When this happens the wax will not re-adhere to the glass. This will not affect the candle burn.

Wet spots can occur when the candle temperature fluctuates causing the wax to expand and contract. This can happen when the weather is extremely cold.

It can even occur during transportation or fluctuating temperatures in a shop from hot to cold.

What is Frosting?

The frosting looks like a white crystal coating sitting around the sides or sometimes on top of the wax.  It often looks unpleasant and your customer may think it’s the product of a poor-quality candle.

What can cause Frosting?

The frosting is actually a unique and natural effect of using vegetable waxes, especially soy. The wax is trying to return back to its natural form and as a result, it begins to crystallize. It doesn’t affect the performance of the candle in any way and also means your wax is 100% natural.

Melissa’s Story

My journey to a passion for fragrance began when I trained as a makeup artist and skincare specialist working for luxury brands.

Following a back injury in 2017, I had to leave behind a much-loved career with Chanel. I had to reinvent myself and longed to find a way back to what I really loved, my passion for fragrances and engaging with customers on a personal level.

It was during this period that I came across an online candle-making course. I also trained with a very experienced Chandler. This led me to a world of everything that is candles and fragrances and as a result, Blossombymelissa was created. I have poured my heart and soul into this project.

Blossoms represent – a time of renewal and new beginnings. This was the perfect name for our company.

Our Inspiration for our labels is Blossoms. There is a different colour ombre effect across all our labels.

My Mam is from the North of Portugal where the Almond Blossom has a unique chapter in Portuguese legend. I have always been fascinated by the fairytale of the Almond Tree, also known as The Snow of the Algarve.

The Fairy Tale of the Almond Tree

Many years ago the young Portuguese prince returned home with a bride from the northlands.

Although she loved him dearly, she missed the winters she left behind...the scents of snowfall upon the wind.

Desperate to see her happy, the prince lined the streets with almond trees, and as their pink-white blossoms fell and his kingdom saw snow for the first time, she was home once again."
